ITV Vet Documentary Causes Controversy

You may have seen ThePet.net’s vet Marc Abraham on ITV1 documentary ‘Pets Undercover’ on the Tonight programme a couple of weeks back.

The programme has ignited massive debate both within the veterinary profession and in the wider public on the issue of pet and owner exploitation including what vets charge and the range of services and procedures they suggest for your beloved pet.

You can see some of the comments on Marc’s blog and his response to them.

We want to know what you think. Please add you comments below.

  1. Interesting correlation between critics of this programme and critics of the KC in the wake of that other documentary!

Come on people, don’t make Abraham & Maitland the fall guys for your other campaign.

Although I would have liked to have seen more depth in this programme, I appreciate there is a limit to what can be covered in 30 mins. It was a good starting point in my opinion.

  2. In my opinion, as good as this programme was at highlighting the issue, it did not go deep enough, did not hit hard enough.
I feel there were many areas that could have should have been highlighted, why do, let’s call them conventional vets, have a stranglehold over the alternative veterinary practises and alternaive therapists; in so much as we must get a referal from our VET. What if my chosen Vet is an Holistic Vet – I havwe to go and ask a CONVENTIONAL vet for permission to take MY pet to MY chosen VET??????
The whole industry needs to be turned on it’s head and exposed, but what chance is there when you have Lady Prim and Proper doing a brillaint impression of a politician and saying absolutely nothing about the question she was being asked…..
Then you have the issue of DEFRA making Pet owners give their pets multiple doses of Tcik & Worm treatments – regardless of the acknowledged safe number of doses and then having to have a rabies jab rather than a titre test. After all, they are only interested int he titre test initially, but after that it’s easier to ignore animal helath and instead just insist on another jab.

OK getting off my soapbox now, but before I go Let’s get another similar programme, but this tiem at least an hour long and really hit and press and press the questions that every pet owner wants answered.

  3. So Puppylove have aligned themselves with Marc Abrahams, do they not know that the K.C. will accept any registration irrespective of whether the breeder is ethical or unlicensed. I sent Marc a copy of the complaints against the K.C. and I have all the written paperwork here, letters to and from the K.C. to disgusted owners who have lost their dogs. Some were from the K.C. Puppy list. I have not heard from Marc since my email to him on 8th March 2009.

As he is the veterinary adviser to the K.C. he will not upset the applecart by going against the K.C. and possibly losing his job.
